The department of Geography is relatively a new department in the history of Bankura Christian College. It made its maiden voyage in 1996-97, with general pass course. Later on in 2004, the department got updated and achieved the key to run Undergraduate Honours course. Now the department has emerged as one of the most well equipped and well placed undergraduate department of Bankura University. The department has assemblage of competent faculties, all having research and pedagogical efficacy and experiences. The department has its unique feedback system for students as well as for teachers, which enhances the quality of study of students and quality of teaching of the teachers. The laboratories of the department are equipped with both conventional and advanced technology-based instruments and machineries, research and consultancy wing and Geo-informatics lab with computer and inteet facility. The department is having its own rich library with more than one thousand books by Indian as well as foreign authors. The department has subscription to a number of renowned geographical jouals.The department organizes national level seminars and workshops for students and scholars, and makes way for getting across the geographical happenings round the globe from resource persons of different institutions and universities of repute. The students of the department are doing pretty well in university level with ranks. Grooming classes arranged for final year students every year are really fruitful. So far thirteen batches have passed out and many students of the department are doing higher level studies in renowned universities of India. The cultural ingenuity of the students are framed in the Wall magazines and creativity section of the department. Educational tours arranged every year are the modes of refreshment that tighten the teacher student bonding and make a healthy atmosphere for easy exchange of views between teachers and students.

VISION

The Department of Geography should act as nodal research agency in various sub-disciplines with special thrust in spatial data handling. It aims to fill the gap between the entrepreneurs and the academicians in executing regional development plans to fulfill the needs of the people of this economically backward part of the state.

MISSION STATEMENT

1. To run the academic programs of the department with utmost care to our beloved and most valued students.
2. To extend research activities in varying sub disciplines of the subject by undertaking various research projects.
3. To organize training programs and workshops in RS-GIS-GPS technology for the creation of awareness regarding this newly emerging tool of geography among the leaers of this backward area.
